The Cristian and Karina Family

Country - Ecuador

Members of the Family
 - This family consists of Cristian and Karina, a married couple about 40 years old, and their 5 children who are 17, 14, 12, 9 and 5.  They are a very good family and very active in their parish.  Cristian understands a lot about electricity and always help out the sisters when he is able.

Occupation and Salary - Cristian and Karina own their own sound equipment which they use to provide services for various events.  They are in debt for some recent equipment that they purchased.  Their economic situation is very poor as their income is not enough to cover all their living expenses.

Our Story - They live in a house that has been lent to them free of charge.  It is very small, and they have hardly anything, not even fans.  However, they make a great effort to provide a good education for their children, and for that reason, they save everything they can to send them to private schools where they can receive a good education.

In December, 2019, Cristian and Karina were in a very bad car accident which left them unable to take care of themselves, let alone take care of their family.  Karina broke her hip and jaw, and Cristian was stuck inside the truck.  He fractured his leg in three places, as well as his arm.  Both have had operations, but Cristian has been told that he will not recover all the mobility in his ankle.  Additionally, their sound equipment was in the truck and was damaged. Because they are self-employed, they do not have auto or health insurance.  Help the Helpless has given them a grant to cover their medical expenses and to hire someone to help care for them and their children during their recovery.  They are in need of an ongoing sponsor to help with food assistance.

What Your Sponsorship Provides

When you sponsor a family in Ecuador, your donation supports a monthly gift of food and basic hygiene and cleaning products for the family.  These families are very impoverished and what little income they have is not enough to buy the basic necessities.  Families will also receive monthly visits from volunteers and the Servant Sisters of the Home of the Mother who not only look after their physical needs but also their spiritual needs.  Any additional funds given beyond the minimum $37 per month will provide other necessities as needed, such as home repairs or basic home utensils.  Additional donations can be made here.

What You'll Receive

As a sponsor, you will receive a newsletter with general updates from our communities in India and Ecuador as well as a letter from your adopted child 3 times per year:  Easter, early fall and Christmas.  We also encourage you to send letters or cards to your adopted child by creating and logging into your account on our website.
