Area and climate
St. Mary’s School and Orphanage is located in a rural setting about 12 miles outside the city of Kumbakonam, India. Summers can reach over 100 degrees, while winter months are mild, with temperatures ranging from 65 degrees at night to 80 degrees during the day.
Getting to St. Mary’s
Visitors usually fly into Chennai (Madras) and travel by rail or bus to Kumbakonam, where Father Antony arranges to meet them at Kumbakonam and provide transportation to St. Mary’s campus. The 230-mile bus trip takes about 8 hours, but alternate flight plans can often cut land travel to under 3 hours. Call us toll-free at 877.762.8857 for tips and suggestions when planning your trip.
St. Mary’s campuses
St. Mary’s has established two separate campuses for the children and students.
The first campus, in St. Mary’s original building, is now used for higher education. The first campus also houses the administration offices, Father Antony’s living quarters and accommodations for visiting guests. Visitor rooms are quite comfortable, each with its own bedroom and private bath and shower.
About a quarter mile away, the newer second campus accommodates all of the physically handicapped, deaf and poor children who attend St. Mary’s. This campus is now at capacity, and funds are desperately needed to expand and support more children. Can you help?
